Tāwhaki is a joint venture partnership between Kaitorete Limited (representing Wairewa Rūnanga and Te Taumutu Rūnanga) and the Crown. The aim is to create lasting opportunities and achieve positive outcomes for the whenua at Kaitorete, as well as for whānau, hapū, and the wider community. This will be achieved through the staged development of a 100ha site as the Aerospace Research Site.

Stage 1 involved the construction of a 1km long, 30m wide sealed runway, including a taxiway and internal roadways, which were completed in February 2024. Stage 2 focuses on the design and construction of a 600sqm hangar with integrated office space.

Tactical served as the Project Delivery Lead for the construction of the sealed runway and the design and construction of a 600m² hangar at the Aerospace Research site. In this role, Tacitcal oversaw all aspects of the project, including design, procurement, contract drafting and negotiation, programme and risk management, as well as acting as the Engineer’s Representative.

    Key achievements included:

    • Successfully fast-tracking the construction process, completing the runway within an impressive four-month timeframe
    • Following this achievement, Tactical was appointed by the client to manage the subsequent hangar construction project
